Perfectionism can really get the best of me. 

It’s a sneaky little thing that I don’t even notice most of the time but I think it’s there more often than I’d like to admit.

But I needed something a little more impactful. 

Something larger than myself. 

So I’m now keeping my eye out for opportunities to make an impact. 

This lobster season feels different.

Is it because I’m now 40? 😝 Who knows. But I definitely notice a shift in how I’m feeling and managing my energy for lobster fishing this year. 

We were stuck at sea for 4 hours yesterday.

The tide was so low that we weren’t able to get through the channel that leads back to our harbour.

We put the traps in the water today!

This setting day seems to have come around quicker than others. Partly because this year we set on April 25 where traditionally we’ve been on April 30.

A few weeks ago I took part in a writing group hosted by Kailea Switzer called Writer’s (Un)Block and it was a fabulous experience!

The physical, emotional and mental changes we’ll go through are plenty.

There is a lot of information out there and it’s important to educate ourselves. And commit to ongoing learning because things are going to keep changing.

Our operators are strong willed and determined. We know what it takes to work hard and to put your heart and soul into what we do. And if our governing bodies want to keep boasting numbers that don’t actually amount to what we feel is true success then perhaps there isn’t a lot we can do about it.
